CECU Members Vote in Favour of Proposed Merger with Beem Credit Union
Compensation Employees Credit Union (CECU) and Beem Credit Union (Beem) are pleased to announce that CECU members have voted in favour of joining forces.
Between April 24 and 30, CECU members cast their vote with 89.7% in favour of the proposed merger, which surpassed the 67% minimum required to move forward.
This vote marks an important milestone for both credit unions and reflects a strong shared belief in the opportunity to build something even better together.
“This is an exciting moment for all of us,” said Breanna Gregerson, Board Chair of CECU. “Our members saw the value in coming together with Beem—a credit union that shares our values, our community focus, and our belief in putting people first. Together, we’re building something stronger for the future.”
Operating together under the Beem banner, the merged credit union will come into effect on June 1, 2025, and will serve a combined membership of more than 193,000 people across British Columbia.
As part of Beem, CECU members will benefit from more choices and a broader range of financial services, a province-wide network of branches, extended hours and an enhanced digital experience designed to meet their evolving needs.
“We are honoured by the trust CECU members have placed in Beem,” said Brian Harris, CEO of Beem Credit Union. “CECU carries more than 70 years of legacy, providing values-based banking to the WorkSafeBC community. We will continue to carry that torch together as we build a credit union that’s truly for the people it serves.”
CECU members will be kept informed and supported through the operations transition.
As their first joint initiative, the two credit unions will be donating $4,660 to Helping Hands, a registered charity. This represents a $10 pledge for every eligible vote plus a matching contribution from Beem.
